Join Making Mensches and Jesi Taylor for a writing workshop led by Jesi! This event is a fundraiser for Khalil T. Zeyara and his family. Join Jesi Taylor for two hours of writing prompts inspired by anti-capitalist, anti-imperial writers, workers, and organizers, short lessons on International Workers’ Day history, and exploring May Day-centric archival materials.
“May Day, or International Workers’ Day, has commemorated the struggles of the working class against capitalists since the late 19th century. It was first officially recognized in honour of the 1886 Haymarket riot in Chicago, which was prompted by police killing 2 workers who were striking for an 8 hour work day. The riot resulted in the deaths of 7 police officers and the hasty execution of a number of labour activists who were not given a fair trial.”

In the words of Rosa Luxemburg, may her memory forever be a blessing, “In this moment of armament lunacy and war orgies, only the resolute will to struggle of the working masses, their capacity and readiness for powerful mass actions, can maintain world peace and push away the menacing world conflagration.” This workshop is an invitation to engage intimately and thoughtfully with the action-oriented ideas of workers movements honoring labor power!
Participation will be encouraged and enthusiastically welcomed but is not expected. However you’re able to show up and share space with us is more than enough.
