Help fund Queer, Jewish, Anti-Zionist Community!
Making Mensches does work that Jewish funders will not fund, as we refuse to budge on our principles of anti-zionism. We have been rejected from grants specifically for being anti-zionist. It is difficult to secure funding outside of Jewish funders because our work is very niche. This is a struggle that many anti-zionist Jewish creators face, while our institutions do not represent us. Currently, Jessie and Elana spend at least 20 hours a week on Making Mensches. This is on top of both working underpaid full time (40 hour/week) jobs. This is not sustainable for us, and we want this work to be sustainable.
We currently cover expenses for our events, such as supplies and parking, and want to do things such as rent accessible space, pay people who contribute to our events, host larger scale events such as conferences, and much more. We want our spaces and work to remain completely accessible to everyone, with no financial barriers.
With all of this in mind, we want to remain true to our grassroots principles and ask our community to help fund our work through donations.
We ask that your money first and foremost go to mutual aid for Palestinians!
This work is essential.
We are so appreciative of however much you can contribute to ensuring anti-zionist Jewish education and community exist. We offer suggestions of $18, $36, and $54 as they are multiples of 18 which is the numeric value of the Hebrew word חי / Chai / Life, making it a common donation scale in Jewish communities. This is merely a suggestion, and any donation amount is welcome. If you are able, recurring donations are wonderful in sustaining our work.
Presently, any funds we receive will go towards event and content costs. If we are lucky enough to get additional funds, these proceeds will go toward Palestinian mutual aid.
